Lace em’ Up

On October 25th my partner Cirsten Main and I had the opportunity to interview two women who help coach the Learn to Skate and Play program put on by the youth association at the Ice arena here in Mt. Pleasant. Head coach Brittany Knopp and volunteer coach Megan Brennan told us about what they do at a practice and what the most rewarding thing about coaching is.

This program is an awesome experience for kids because they have to opportunity to try a sport not many get to try.  The youth hockey program lets participants borrow hockey equipment, lace up the skates and hop on the ice to learn basic hockey skills such as skating, passing and stick handling in a fun way. Here is a look into a day in the life of a youth hockey coach and how this program is helping young kids find a passion for a sport they might never have thought to try.
